DaTa Reef

DataReef

Workshop at Shanghaitech

Lab: Uwe Rieger & Yinan Liu

DIV Lab: Hua Yang

With the two day workshop the arc/sec Lab gave an introduction into Cross-Reality design and interactive systems at ShanghaiTech University.

The first part of the workshop offered a hands on experience of how to use Augmented Reality as a construction tool for complex structures. The spatial geometries were developed with the 3D modelling software Rhino . In the following the Microsoft HoloLens was used to assemble a 20 m long structure using paper straws and 3d printed joints.

The second part of the workshop explored how to populate the physical structure with interactive digital animations using Vuforia, Unity 3D and the HoloLens. The combination of step 1 and step 2 created a holographic ‘coral reef’ which was responsive to the movements and actions of the viewer.
